10 Country Music Groups With Female Lead Singers

Country bands with female lead singers list is topped by Little Big Town with two singers. Karen Fairchild and Kimberly Schlapman both lead the vocals.

Little Big Town is a country music group consisting of four members, Karen Fairchild, Kimberly Schlapman, Phillip Sweet, and Jimi Westbrook. The band is based in Homewood, Alabama, since its inception in 1998.

Little Big Town's four members take turns as lead singers but Karen and Kimberly mostly take on the duty with their smooth and soulful voices as lead vocalists. The music group released ten full-length studio albums between 2002 and 2022. Four out of the ten albums ranked number one on US Country Charts.

The Band Perry consisting of three siblings, two brothers, and a sister, was led by singer Kimberly Perry. They started singing together when Kimberly was just a teenager and her brothers Reid and Neil would perform the opening act for her.

The band released their self-titled debut studio album on October 12, 2010, with Republic Nashville, which peaked at number 2 on US Country Charts and received a Platinum certificate after selling 1.6 million copies. Kimberly was the lead vocalist on all the songs of the album.

One of the top 10 female country singers of present times Natalie Maines leads the country group The Chicks. Natalie joined the country band in 1995.

Natalie Maines is the lead vocalist of the country music band The Chicks since 1995 when she joined the group after Laura Lynch left as the lead vocals. The band was previously known as DixeChicks but they changed the name on June 25, 2020.

Maines recorded Wide Open Spaces in 1998 as her first album with the band, the album was the fourth studio album for then-DixieChicks. Natalie's first album with the group received a 13× Platinum certification selling over 13 million copies in the United States alone. The album peaked at number 1 on US Country Charts and number 4 on US Charts.

The singer also released a solo album titled Mother on May 7, 2013, which peaked at number 17 on US Billboard 200.

Among the hottest female country singers is Jennifer Nettles who is the lead vocalist of the country duo Sugarland. Jennifer and Kristian Bush form the duo.

Jennifer Nettles joined Sugarland in 2002 as one of the three founding members. She has worked as a lead vocalist for the group since the release of the group's debut album Twice the Speed of Life in 2004.

Although the group was initially formed as a three-member band,  Kristen Hall left the group in late 2005, and Jennifer and Kristian continued as a singing duo. They took a break between 2012 and 2017. The duo has released five studio albums since departing with Hall.

Female country singers list is incomplete without the lead singer of Runaway June Stevie Woodward. Jennifer Wayne and Natalie Stovall give backup vocals.

Jennifer Wayne co-founded Runaway June as an all-girls country singing group with founding members Hannah Mulholland and Naomi Cooke. However, they were replaced by Natalie Stovall and Stevie Woodward in 2020 and 2022 respectively.

The group is still an all-girls country band and Stevie gives her voice as a lead vocalist for the group. The current members of the band have not released any studio albums, or EPs together yet. Runaway June has one studio album titled Blue Roses released on June 28, 2019, under its belt.

Stevie Woodward wrote her first song at the age of 5 and taught herself to play guitar by the time she was 10 years old. She has also performed numerous acoustic solo shows during her teenage.

Among hot female country singers is Kassidy Lorraine Osborn who is the lead singer of country band SHeDAISY. The band consisted of the Osborn sisters.

Kassidy Lorraine Osborn started performing with her elder sisters Kristyn Robyn Osborn and Kelsi Marie Osborn in her childhood. The Osborn sisters initially performed for their families and relatives and later started performing at local shows and festivals.

The sisters moved to Nashville in the mid-1980s and signed with RCA Records as The Osborn Sisters in 1989. They later signed Lyric Street Records a decade later in 1999 and got their beginning in Country music. Their debut album The Whole SHeBANG was released on May 11, 1999, and got platinum certification.

SHeDAISY released six studio albums together but has not released any new music since 2011. They have not officially disbanded yet as well.

The Judds singer Wynonna Judd released six studio albums as a lead singer of the singing duo with her mother Naomi Judd. She is a 2022 Hall of Fame inductee.

New and up and coming female country artists like Ashley Cooke, Pillbox Patti, and Avery Anna, among several others look at Wynonna as an inspiration in the music industry. Wynonna performed with her mother Naomi Judd in a singing duo named The Judds until 2023 from 1983 with several hiatus and breaks in between.

The duo released six studio albums between 1984 and 1990 and four out of those six were certified platinum in the United States of America and one received two times platinum certification selling over 2 million copies.

Wynonna and Naomi were awarded with Academy of Country Music's Top Vocal Duo for seven consecutive years between 1984 and 1990, they were also inducted in the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2022.

The Highwomen lead vocalist Brandi Carlile is an inspiration to emerging female country singers. The Highwomen is a supergroup consisting of four members.

The supergroup consists of Brandi Carlile, Natalie Hemby, Maren Morris, and Amanda Shires and they all take turns as lead vocalists. However, Carlile has sung most numbers as a lead vocalist in their eponymous debut album.

The band was founded in 2019 and is currently signed to  Elektra Records. They have released one studio album and two non-album singles so far. Apart from The Highwomen, Brandi and other members have their own successful solo careers as well.

The 42-year-old songstress made her debut in 2004 and has released eight solo studio albums so far. She also won the Best Country Song Award at the 2021 Grammy Awards for her song Crowded Table.

Most beautiful and good-looking country singers are the frontwomen of Pistol Annies Miranda Lambert, Ashley Monroe, and Angaleena Presley.

The country music band Pistol Annies has released four studio albums since their inception in 2013 where all three members of the group take turns as lead vocalists. However, Lambert has made the most appearance as a lead vocalist in the trio.

Apart from Pistol Annies, Miranda Lambert has her own successful solo career as well. She released her debut solo album in 2001 and has since released eight other solo studio albums.

Similarly, other members Ashley Monroe, and Angaleena Presley also have their own successful solo careers. Monroe has five solo studio albums under her belt and Presley has released two studio albums on her own.

Among blonde hair country singers is Hillary Scott who is also the lead vocalist of Lady A. Scott sings with other members Dave Haywood and Charles Kelley.

The band was formed in 2006 in Nashville, Tennesse, also known as the country music capital in the United States of America. Initially, it was named Lady Antebellum but the three founding members decided to drop the second name keeping only the initials.

Scott, Haywood, and Kelley have released nine studio albums since their inception. The band's second, third, and fourth albums peaked at number one in US Charts and got 4× Platinum, Platinum, and Platinum certifications respectively.
