While addressing Hamilton, he used the pejorative term 'neguinho,' and the conversation was taped in Portuguese.

The clip was subsequently released to YouTube in March and translated into English, causing a social media frenzy. Rodrigo, on the other hand, has attempted to defend the former driver on Instagram.

In an outlandish post, he claimed that their second grandma called us all' the n-word, and even claimed that it is a 'word of love' rather than an insulting epithet.

The stream of comments criticizing his views appears to have prompted him to make his account private.

Piquet had a brief career in tennis before abandoning the sport. He then took up karting and masked his name to save his father from learning his pastime.

Piquet was born on August 17, 1952, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil's then-capital, as the son of Brazilian surgeon Estácio Gonçalves Souto Maior.

In 1960, his father relocated his family to the new capital, Brasilia, and became Minister of Health in Joo Goulart's government.

Piquet had two brothers, Alexis and Geraldo, as well as a sister named Genusa. Piquet was the smallest of the siblings.
