Matt Abdelmassih Spouse
Kelly Abdelmassih is a Ph.D. holder in Hospitality Management. Kelly completed her Doctorate from Lowa State University in 2015.
Kelly also has an M.S. in Foodservice & Lodging Management and another in Dietetics from the same university. She has 20 years of experience in food and nutrition, both in operational and clinical positions.
She teaches at various universities, including Iowa State University, New York University, and the University of Alabama. She is passionate about teaching and facilitating experiential learning opportunities.
At UNL, she teaches courses such as Introduction to Hospitality Management, Introduction to Food and Beverage in the Hospitality Industry, Introduction to The Lodging Industry, Human Nutrition and Metabolism, and Applied Dietetics Practice and Concepts.
Dr. Abdelmassih also conducts research and has published papers on food allergy accommodation, food safety, nutrition labeling, and diversity and inclusion in food service operations. She uses her research and industry experiences to create a relevant and practical learning environment for students.
Dr. Kelly has received several honors and recognition for her professional achievements. In 2014, she received the Foodservice Systems Management Education Council Research Grant, presented by the Foodservice Systems Management Education Council, in the amount of $1,963.20.
Additionally, Dr. Kelly received the Social Sciences Poster Presentation Award at the Graduate Minority Assistantship Program Research Symposium. She has also been recognized for her teaching abilities, receiving the ISU Teaching Excellence Award in 2012 and 2011. In 2010, Dr. Kelly received the Allene Vaden Memorial Research Grant in Foodservice, presented by the American Dietetic Association Foundation, with a grant amount of $5,000.
Dr. Kelly is also an active member of several professional organizations in the field of food service and nutrition. She has been a member of the National Association of College and University Food Services since 2012, the Foodservice Systems Management Education Council since 2010, and the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics since 2008.
