Early in the 1960s, he began his acting career, and since then, he has appeared in several shows like Dynasty, Matlock, Hill Street Blues, Baywatch, Generation, and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

Plus, he made appearances in various 1990s television programs in the final years of his career, including Days of our Lives, 3rd Rock From the Sun, The New Adventures of Superman, Golden Girls, 7th Heaven, Cold Case, and 24.

Elaine Benes, a character portrayed by Julia Louis-Dreyfus, was referred to as a "difficult patient" by the doctor he played in the sitcom's eighth season in which he guest-starred.

As an individual, Richard was a true Renaissance Man who enjoyed reading, the theater, movies, literature, music, playing the violin, and drinking fine whiskey.

As per the Obituary, Richard had a passion for sports and would have rejoiced if the Los Angels Angels had won on Friday night when he died. He loved to play pranks on everyone and had an attractive smile and sly sparkle in his eyes.

Before his untimely death, Richard and his wife Kathy celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary, exchanging vows in 1982.

When Roat, a 1933-born, married Kathy, the love of his life and soul mate, they were both in their late 40s. Their relationship was filled with adventure, enjoyment, laughing, and love, which was indeed an "Affair to Remember." 

We believe that Richard and Kathy didn't have children from their relationship because, in general, no websites have given the details regarding the couple's kids.
