Before his untimely death, Richard and his wife Kathy celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary, exchanging vows in 1982.

When Roat, a 1933-born, married Kathy, the love of his life and soul mate, they were both in their late 40s. Their relationship was filled with adventure, enjoyment, laughing, and love, which was indeed an "Affair to Remember."
