New Orleans Civil District Court Judge Robin Giarrusso Decision On Abortion Law Unban

At the Orleans Parish Civil District Court, Robin M. Giarrusso serves as the senior judge. From 1998 to 2000, she presided as Chief Judge of the Court, as per her bio.

The Judiciary Commission of Louisiana was established by the Louisiana Supreme Court, and during the final year of her term, Judge Giarrusso presided as its chair.

Similarly, Giarrusso earned her J.D. from the Tulane University Law School in 1977 after earning her B.A. in political science from Tulane University in 1974.

Before being elected to the Orleans Parish Judicial District, Giarrusso worked as a contract and public bid lawyer in the City Attorney's office.

Plus, she was the inaugural recipient of the Michelle Pitard Wynne Professionalism Award, which was given to her by the New Orleans Association for Women Attorneys.

Before deciding whether to prolong the present stay, Judge Robin Giarrusso of Orleans Parish stated she would hold another hearing the following month.

The Louisiana trigger law does not include any exceptions for rape or incest and only permits abortions when the mother's life is in danger.

Since Roe v. Wade was overturned, states are now free to enact their own abortion-related laws, eliminating the federal right to one.

Thirteen states, including Texas, Missouri, and Tennessee, have triggered laws that forbid abortions for up to 30 days after Roe v. Wade is overturned.

Furthermore, fines and incarceration are two potential outcomes of unlawful abortion penalties.

The son of the previous police chief and a member of the city council, Joe Giarrusso Jr., was the husband of Civil District Court Judge Robin Giarrusso.

He was also a well-known New Orleans lawyer and former magistrate who was discovered dead at his Algiers home from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to the Orleans Parish coroner.

In the year 2012, Tall Timbers subdivision's 3500 block of Inwood Avenue received a call from the police. Giarusso, 60, was a former assistant district attorney for Orleans and an ex-assistant US attorney.

Furthermore, Robin Giarrusso, a member of the Democratic Party, was successfully re-elected as the Division G judge of the Orleans Parish Civil District Court in Louisiana on November 3, 2020, following the cancellation of the main election.
