Nell O'Brien aka Diane Ladd from Chesapeake Shores, after receiving a diagnosis of pneumonia, was informed that she only had six months to live.  By recovering from the sickness, she disproved them.

Nell, the O'Brien family grandmother in the show, is pleasant, nurturing, and knowledgeable. Mick's wife, Megan, her son's mother, left him with many small children.

The O'Brien family's care was then supervised by Nell, who had moved in. She has served as the family's unifying force over the years despite its many conflicts and divisions, as per reports suggested by Fandom.

She is all too conscious of the flaws and errors of her dear ones, yet she never decides for them what to do. Instead, the granny lets them choose their own routes, sometimes more slowly than earlier.

Ladd doesn't appear to be playing the same part, at least not in the list of actors. She has long served as the family's guide during disputes of all types.

Nell O'Brien, Aka Diane Ladd, currently resides with her husband Robert Charles Hunter in California where they enjoy spending time with their 10 grandchildren.

Although Robert and Diane are not parents, they do have kids from a prior marriage. With her first husband, Bruce Dern, the actress had two daughters, Diane Elizabeth Dern and Laura Dern, per her Wikipedia bio.

The actress recently revealed to Closer Weekly that when her daughter, Laura Dern, learned that her mother had pneumonia, she started crying. Because her mom is her best friend, Laura told her that if she died, she would be lonely.

Diane and her daughter Laura have started the writing process for the book 'Honey, Baby, Mine'. The song Ladd's dad used to recite to her inspired the title, which she then sang to her daughter.

Diane Ladd portrays the character of Nell O'Brien in Chesapeake Shores and given her disappearance at the moment, it doesn't seem like she will be returning anytime soon.

Chesapeake Shores is a TV drama inspired by the Sherryl Woods novel series of a similar title, produced by Chesapeake Shores Productions Inc. in collaboration with Borderline Distribution.

Ladd has stated that she will continue to write as long as she has breath in her lungs in response to constant rumors that she will be leaving the show.

She also revealed on Twitter that she is now producing a movie. The veteran actress said on the microblogging website that she was filming a great scene.

Her previous film roles include those in Chinatown (1974), 28 Days (2000), Ghosts of Mississippi (1996), Primary Colors (1998), and National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (1989).
