Her husband was an Indian artist, art director, and filmmaker. Her husband Bharathan, the founder of Malayalam Cinema, directed over 40 films in Malayalam and Tamil.

Reportedly, the couple had two children, Sreekutty and Sidharth Bharathan. Sreekutty is a former child actress, while Siddharth is a film actor and director.

According to The Times of India, Lalitha was in the hospital for multiple health issues. She was under the close observation of a group of doctors.

Before her death, her family members brought her to director-actor Siddharth's house at Kochi. As reported on On Manorama, she breathed her last in the wee hours on February 22, 2022.
