Why Is Kelli Giddish Leaving SVU?

After eleven seasons with "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," Kelli Giddish has recently announced in an emotional IG post about her exit from the drama.

Giddish, who acts as Detective Amanda Rollins on SVU, put to rest any rumors about the duration of her stay on the program in a statement released to USA TODAY by NBC on Wednesday.

"I wanted to address the discussion I've seen online and let everyone know that this will, indeed, be my last season on 'Law & Order: SVU," the actress wrote in the statement posted on Instagram.

As of now, the actress didn't explain the reason for leaving the crime drama series. She remarked that "performing Rollins has been one of (her) life's greatest thrills and privileges."

Kelli further added, "There is simply no other character on TV like Rollins. She’s grown and changed, and I have as well."

The actress also expressed her gratitude to the writers who gave her the role of detective Amanda and provided her a platform, as well as to Dick Wolf, Mariska Hargitay, Warren Leight, Peter Jankowski, NBC, and Universal Television.

What Happened To Amanda Rollins In Law & Order?

Detective Amanda Rollins, played by Kelli Giddish, frequently misses episodes of Law & Order. Detective Rollins had a few short breaks in Season 23 alone.

Sometimes she had to assist her mother in getting better after suffering an injury throughout several incidents.

On a lighter note, Amanda took her children to Orlando, with her lover (Assistant District Attorney Dominick Carisi (portrayed by Peter Scanavino), most likely to Disney World.

Considering that Declan Murphy (Donal Logue) comeback in Season 23, it appears that the show has been preparing viewers for a permanent ending for a while.

Murphy is the dad of Amanda's oldest child, so it wouldn't surprise us if his presence made her feel uncomfortable enough to either go back to him or return to him.

Per the NBC press release report, Kelli Giddish will reprise her role as Amanda Rollins in a three-hour "Law & Order" crossover special airing on 22 September.
